VOL.1 : Optimization for Air Compressor Operation
In August 2023, the IEC issued the IEC63376 Industrial Facility Energy Management System (FEMS) This standard specifies the functions and information flows in the energy management system for the support (Facility, Utility) of the industrial plant and factory to upgrade the existing energy management system (EMS-Energy Management System) that focuses on the visualization of energy use to the energy management as an automatic control system, which is consistent with the approach of Azbil , which is to focus on using the control system to optimization the Air Compressor operation.

The optimization control system uses the Demand-Response Control principle to automatically stop unnecessary Air Compressors and adjust the pressure setpoint according to demand to increase overall efficiency (Figure 1).

- Choosing to stop the compressor with lower efficiency and considering to use the compressor with higher efficiency than others by measuring the actual efficiency and letting the optimization control system understand each unit rank the operation to be consistent with the demand. Provide the use of pressure measurement and control appropriately (Figure 2).
Figure 3 : Show Header Pressure Control and Unit Control for each Air Compressor
- Reduce leakage and reduce air supply beyond demand by using the control valve mechanism together with Pressure Control on the demand side. When not in use, the air supply mechanism can be turned close. When in low use, the air supply mechanism can be adjusted to reduce the amount of air supply (Figure 3)

PIC : Pressure Indicating Controller
- Reduce excess air blowing (Blow Off) to reduce the use of energy to produce compressed air that exceeds the demand by using the cooperation between IGV control and each compressor Load/Unload control.
All of these, Azbil's Air Compressor Optimization Control System can help save energy by 10% - 30%. For more information, please contact Azbil's team.
